The lonely leaf

Upon the branch of life;

When the weather brings the leaves down,

it stands strong.

All abandon it at the top.

To face the bitter cold alone;

Through the harshness of winter,

Relying on itself.

Trembling with fear,

it realizes it has help from its strong branch.

Despite the wind and snow,

it undermines the long fall of death.

Looking below to the fall,

Which looks a little like freedom;

it longs for weakness, to let go.

Yet, it fights with all its resistance.

Realizing strength is all,

it holds on with new hope.

Using wisdom to conquer what seemed unconquerable

And win what seemed defeated – him, the last leaf of winter.

It’s a battle we all endure.

But few have the strength.

To behold the following spring

That lights the fight.
